I didn't want to do this report. Even my fishing partner, Jack, told me to leave his name out of it but hey, if I am here, so is he. We hit the lake at Stewarts Creek about 6:45 am and headed upriver to a bay with a lot of grass, bass attractors right? Not today. I finally hooked a small bass 13-14" on a Chatterbait but he came unhooked before I landed him. This was the high spot for the day. We fished a great point where Fall Creek merges into the Stone. Nada.
We moved on up to the pumping station up river. This flat usually holds lots of shad this time of year, not today. No bass either. Next stop at the East/West Fork. Finally, I boat a fish, a small bluegill on a KVD 1.0 Squarebill. Fished around the island that usually produces at least one bass, but not today. Back down river to the big flat off the Stone we finally lots of shad and baitfish. There were even a few single bass slashing at the baitfish but they refused our multiple offerings. One more area to try before we surrender, the cove at Fate Sanders Marina. Same result.
We are completely mystified that we couldn't get bass bites or should I say A bite. Jack (yeah he was really here) and I threw out the white flag around 1:30 pm. If you followed this depressing report you will note that we boated not one bass. That would be a double zero, sad but true. It is a good thing that catching success is not "entirely" necessary for two friends to have a good time on the water.
