Percy Priest 10-18-10

I really didn't want to write this report. Why? Well, there is nothing to report. I got skunked. I had 2 small bass on briefly but both got off. I had one good bite on a worm but didn't hook up. I fished a red eye shad, a Rapala Slash, jig, worm, C-rig with white fluke. Nada, nothing, zero, bagel. Spoke with a guy at the ramp and he had similar luck. He did catch a few small ones and was as mystified as I. Then another guy came in that the first guy knew. The second guy had caught a 4 and a 3 and a number of small schoolies. BUT he fished up river toward Fate Sanders. The first guy and I fished mid lake creeks to near the dam.

Spring River, Buffalo River (AR) and White River - Oct. 2010

Spring River

Bill L. on the Spring

Buffalo River

White River
Visited with friends in Horse Shoe Bend, Ar Oct 6-10. Bill and I fly fished the Spring River for trout. We caught several, with Bill keeping a couple for a neighbor. The Spring is full of trout and seemed to be easy prey to spin fishermen with powerbait. Our success came primarily on wooly boogers, black. The next day we planned to travel to the Buffalo River about 2 hrs away. We were going to use ultra light spinning gear for smallmouth. After putting on waders, etc discovered my spinning outfit and baits were in Horse Shoe Bend. Bill's spinning reel had 15 year old line which parted with little pull. So....we decided to fly fish. Then Bill discovered he left his fly vest back home with all his flies, clippers, etc. Nevertheless we made do and fly fished this gorgeous river with high bluffs. Only caught a couple of sunfish but enjoyed the experience. Packed up after a while and traveled to Tucker Shoals on the White River. Water was low and crystal clear. Fished a couple of hours with no fish but in such a beautiful setting, who needs fish. Met a great bunch of folks in a flyfishing club from Louisville, KY.

That ended our fishing but the next day we attended the Turkey Trot Parade in Yellville, Ar. It defies description but was a lot of fun. Watching wild turkeys, ejected from a small plane, gliding down to the ground was interesting.

Great, great weekend.
