Kentucky Lake 11-30-12

Kentucky Lake 11-30-12

It's time to Christmas shop not go fishing, right. Well when the call came from good friend Doyal in Memphis inviting me to meet him in New Johnsonville, well shopping can wait. The day was forecasted to be 63, sunny with S wind 10-15. However, when I left Franklin, the temp was 41. By the time I got to Hurricane Mills the temp was 28. So, in spite of teasing from Doyal, I wore my heavy cold weather gear (he calls it a Santa Claus suit). I stayed comfortably warm all day. We found fishing pretty slow. I finally caught a keeper on a SBFW (finesse worm). A short time later Doyal caught a keeper on a tube.

We finally moved to a creek opening. Doyal tied on an Alabama rig with only 3 hooks. I was considering rigging one myself but since I had a 3/4 oz jig with a big chunk on so I decided to make a few casts with it. It wasn't long before a nice 2.5 bass gobbled it right off the point of the opening of the creek. We fished on into the creel channel lined with heavy grass. Threw the jig down the middle of the creek and bingo, another fat 2 3/4 bass ate it. After fishing further into the creek we turned back and as we approached the opening, I picked up a 3 lber on the jig.

Moved on down to Little Dry creek and worked the same pattern. Doyal caught a nice 2 3/4 bass on a jig just inside the creek opening. Coming back out of the creek I caught my 5 th bass about 2.5. We then made a run down to Richland Harbor checking for some shad concentrations which has eluded us so far. Found none. Deadheaded back up to Little Dry. Doyal caught a beautiful, fat 3 1/4 on the jig. We made one more stop before seeing this gorgeous sunset as we headed to the launch to beat the dark.

There wasn't a lot of action but we caught 8 bass from 2-3+ most on heavy football jigs in 10-12 feet of water. That is not so bad for November 30.

We stopped at Jeff's Diner for a great catfish dinner and then we each headed our way for home.

Man, I love to catch those fish.
